Amid the heat of a hot July day,
a tiny puppy wading in the cool, blue lake
A bluebird sings her euphonious tune,
her mate responding with a song of his too
Joyous cheers and whoops resonate around
as school ends and the children shout about
They play tag in the lush, green grass
“Hooray, hooray, there’s no more class!”
They flip and giggle and laugh like fools
And then, with a holler, they all rush to the pool
Summer.
