The end of school is here,
Excitement is everywhere.
Vacation time is near, and kids envy their friends,
Who have already escaped school.
Summer means water balloons, hiking, fishing,
Popsicles, snow cones, slushies, ice creams,
Frozen treats, and drinks galore.
Summer camps, hanging out,
Playing video games, going downtown.
Waking up late every day,
Freedom and happiness all the time.
For kids at least, that’s summer.
An adult’s life just carries on,
No school letting out.
Their jobs continue,
They still work like normal, but not on weekends.
Life, for an adult,
Seems much harder than for a kid.
Teens, on the other hand,
May find jobs or take classes.
Their life is more difficult than a younger kid’s.
Everyone thinks differently about summer,
And whatever comes their way next.
Near the end of summer, though,
Everyone has something in common.
Kids are preparing,
Adults are preparing,
Teens are preparing.
Younger kids prepare for another school year,
Meeting new and old friends,
New classes and teachers and new adventures,
Old classes and teachers and a mundane life again.
Adults prepare for all that comes next
When school starts and life seems
To enter an old chapter again.
And they prepare for all the responsibilities
That comes with being an adult.
Teens prepare for the same as younger kids,
But also for more worries,
Worries that come with growing up.
Responsibilities, doing new things,
Growing up.
Preparing, preparing, preparing,
We are all doing the same thing at this time.
Everyone is preparing
For the end of summer and the cycle of life
To repeat itself again.
