Taylor Swift, Out to Break Another Record!

By: Emily Ao

Taylor’s album drop during April earlier this year has made it through another week at No.1 on Billboard 200. Beating releases from other stars like Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and ATEEZ, “The Tortured Poets Department” refuses to budge from its crowned spot.

Back in 2008 and 2014 with her releases, “Fearless” and “1989,” Taylor’s hits effortlessly peaked at No.1 on Billboard 11 times. According to this New York Times article, what makes this a groundbreaking record for the artist is that these past records didn’t sustain their rank for 11 weeks consecutively. They popped in and out, fluctuating across the charts, unlike this year’s new release.

In the past, other artists like Whitney Houston and Morgan Wallen have topped charts for 12 and 13 consecutive weeks, respectively. Taylor definitely isn’t the first to achieve this milestone in their career, but she definitely has the potential to go beyond.

Due to this album’s success, Taylor has released multiple versions of the album, with additional tracks. Her numbers are evidently strong, never falling behind 100 million streams weekly.

With more hit albums rising on the chart this week, like Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me hard and Soft” and Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” will Taylor remain at No.1 in the following weeks?
