On August 5, an unlicensed Thailand nightclub caught on fire, causing three dozen people to become injured. 13 were killed.
The nightclub was built illegally, so it shouldn’t have been a restaurant. The nightclub in Thailand’s eastern Chonburi Province was crowded with people when witnesses say the fire broke out. When people were running to escape the blaze, some of their clothes caught on fire.
The police report that when the fire spread, the emergency doors were locked so the only way out was the entrance. People trampled others trying to get to safety. News outlets say the walls were soundproof, and the material of the wall was flammable.
Nana and her friends were sitting behind the building before the fire started. “I saw flames above the stage, on the right side,” she said. “The singer on stage saw it too, at about the same time, and he shouted ‘fire!’ and threw the mic at it.”
When the fire went out everything was burned. Fortunately, mostly people made it out safely.
