The Bakery

By: Alvin Fang

One decade ago in a different universe, there was an 11-year-old boy named James Green. He was a fantastic salesperson living by himself since his parents died. One day, he was making a fresh batch of cookies and a lemon pie when he heard the doorbell ring. He investigated the noise and saw a dog and its owner.

He asked them how he could help the owner said they were homeless. He said they heard from the community that there was a bakery and came for some food. The boy heard about it, he immediately got a loaf of bread and some water for the owner. The owner thanked the boy and said he would return the favor as soon as possible.

The next day, The boy opened his bakery, and there was a huge line, as usual. And he went inside to get his bread, cake, cookies, and his favorite lemon pie. He had run out of milk, so he used water for his lemon pie. He sold many, and they didn’t mind the water. He went back and kept baking.

Over the next few days, everything went well for him. One day in autumn, he started feeling sick and couldn’t open the bakery. He didn’t open the next day or the one after that; a whole week passed, and he didn’t feel better.

All hope was gone until one day, after a month of not opening the bakery, he felt better and was well enough to open the bakery. He went outside and saw a jar with a note that said, “get well” and a $1000 bill. When he looked up, he saw a dog and its owner. The SAME owner who he helped before.

He said he was helping them sell his food and bread while James was sick and was glad he was ok now. They then sold bread, cake, cookies, and James’ favorite lemon pie together.
