Abby woke up to bright sunlight. Her owner, who Abby still didn’t know the name of, was petting her head. Abby licked her owner’s hand and ran to her food bowl with her tongue hanging out.
“Food, now!” Abby barked. But her owner didn’t give her food. In fact, he began to grab Abby’s leash and motioned for her to come to the door. Abby knew better than to not obey her owner, so she sadly trotted to the door.
“Where are we going?” Abby barked, questionably. Her owner did not respond. Her owner has taken care of Abby since she was only a little puppy, it amused her how he still didn’t understand the animal language. I suppose I don’t understand the human language, either, Abby thought to herself.
Abby enjoyed the car ride even if she was starving. Her head hung out the window as she barked “hello” to every car she saw.
The car stopped and her owner put Abby’s leash back on. He led her into a building and began chatting with a woman. Abby was no longer thinking of food.
“What is this place?” Abby barked. Still, her owner didn’t respond. She angrily tugged her owner’s pants and barked loudly. Her owner laughed at her and began petting her favorite spot.
Abby was quick to forgive and almost immediately she began wagging her tail again and forgot all about the strange place she was in. Her owner started leading her into a room.
Abby was horrified by what was in the room. There were CATS. Cats of every size and shape locked up in cages all around the room. Some of them were hissing, and others were purring.
“Dog!” one cat snarled at Abby.
“Cat!” Abby growled. She began to madly bark at all the cats in the room and tried to gnaw off her collar to escape. But to Abby’s horror, her owner proceeded to pick up one of the cats. The cat purred as her owner stroked her fur the same way he stroked Abby’s fur.
Abby felt a tinge of jealousy and angrily wanted to run out the door, but her owner was still holding the leash. Before she knew it, Abby was sitting in the car again. However, the windows were closed this time, and there was a cat in the car.
“What are you doing here?!” Abby yapped.
“Wow, isn’t it obvious? Your owner adopted me!” the cat meowed.
“What is this cat doing here?” Abby whined at her owner. As usual, he didn’t respond.
“I have a name! It’s Lily! And I have a feeling we’ll have SO much fun together,” Lily hissed. Abby sensed the sarcasm and worried what this cat would do to her.
