Diana Taurasi became the very first player in WNBA history to score 10,000 points.
Taurasi reached this goal with 8:23 time remaining in the third quarter-finals against the Atlanta Dream team. After Diana made the shot the crowd cheered like a lion’s roar and her teammates were circling her in cheers.
She started the game needing 18 points until the huge achievement.
The count down began when Taurasi made a three-pointer two minutes into the match, then then she drove the Atlanta defense for a layup a few minutes later. She had already gotten 10 points by halftime, 8 more to go!
Then in the third quarter, Diana hit a layup on the Mercury’s first possession. After she made 25 consecutive three-pointers which got her to 10,000 points.
Diana Taurasi has been the cornerstone of the Phoenix Team franchise since she was first drafted in 2004 out of UConn. She has won three WNBA championships for the Mercury and is currently the career regular season scoring leader.
She averaged more than 19 points per game in her entire career, which also includes her career-high 25.3 points made in 2006. She is a great shooter.
