The Kidd Kids Adventure

By: Emma Xing

The Kidd kids face many threats and crimes in the book Treasure Hunters. Will they be able to survive and find their parents as well? While the characters go through dangerous events, the author still keeps it humorous. James Patterson, the author, gives readers a thrilling experience. The book is perfect for children who want a taste of adventure.

But what are some of the dangers they face during the book? In the first book of four, the Kidd’s kids’ mother is kidnapped. The book begins with the family on the sea, thrashing in their boat on the ocean. Beck and Bick, who are twins, and Tommy and Storm, their older brother and sister, are making sure all of them are safe. However, their dad goes missing after the storm. They need to survive on their own and find their missing parents. They face many crimes as they go on land and find clues their dad left them. The Kidd children then go through many life-threatening adventures, for example finding a stolen painting or facing a worldwide wanted criminal. And their father was on a mission in China. These are only some of the dangers they face.

However, in Treasure Hunters, readers can get a humorous perspective of the twins throughout the books. Bick writes all his thoughts and describes his feelings. Beck is illustrating the settings of the book for the reader to imagine what’s happening. One example of their humor is when they both have Twin Tirades, something their mom created. They would fight about very minor things. Then, they would make up and it seems like the fight never happened. Bick would write, “ And we jumped into Twin Tirade no. 466.” Every time they start fighting, the number grows bigger. The Kidd kids keep their readers entertained and laughing.

The book’s rational characters teach the reader to have quick-thinking. For example, in book number two, Bick and Beck are being chased by a hippo in a dirty and dangerous moat. They both swim as fast as they can to something that was barely an island. The reader then gets Bick’s impression on how tired they were – “It’s funny how you swim as fast as ever when you are that close to being eaten.” Another example is when their ship is about to be drowned in the beginning of the book. They took responsibility and acted rationally to protect each other. This book will teach readers to have rational thinking.

The Treasure Hunters is a very adventurous book that will keep most readers on the edge of their seat. The perspective and characteristics of the characters shows the reader good examples. However, the length of the book is probably more suited for older children than younger. But the book is humorous and might give the reader a couple of laughs. I would definitely suggest reading this book.
