Tragedy struck the world of athletics as Tori Bowie, a revered Olympic sprinter and beloved role model, passed away due to complications from childbirth. The news of her death has left the sports community and her fans worldwide in a state of shock.
Bowie’s breakthrough came at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, where she clinched her first global gold medal in the 100-meter dash. Her stellar performances continued at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she earned three medals, including a gold in the 4×100-meter relay with the American team. Bowie’s athleticism and remarkable speed made her a force to be reckoned with on the track, capturing the hearts of fans around the world.
Tragically, complications during childbirth, namely maternal mortality, killed Bowie, according to NBC, “Olympic sprinter Tori Bowie died from childbirth complications.” As the news of her passing spread, tributes poured in from fellow athletes, coaches, and fans, who expressed their grief and shared fond memories of the incredible athlete. The Olympic community rallied together, united in their mourning of the loss of one of their own.
She reportedly died from maternal mortality. The maternal death rate among Black Americans is much higher than other racial groups in 2021 it was 69.9 per 100,000, which is 2.6 times higher than the rate for White women.
