The life of a dog

By: Aiden Ding

I wake up at 7:00 next to my owner. He doesn’t seem awake, so I paw his face. He starts moving! ‘I’m hungry,’ I tell him.
‘Patrick?’ he says.

Sometimes I think my owner can’t hear me. He refers to all my words as “barks.” He rolls over and gets out of bed to make me breakfast! He pours my food into a bowl named “Patrick.” I start eating, then I notice he pulls out a cage!

‘Where are we going?’I asked him. He stays silent. I don’t know where we’re going, so I walk into the cage-I hope it’s fun!

The car ride takes far too long, and my owner blasts music that is too loud. But when we get there, I sense a strange odor in the air. It smells like…medicine? Oh no! This can’t be good. He brings my cage out and goes inside the building. Many owners with pets are here.
Soon, our name is called. I am nervous! My owner and I venture inside a room labeled Dr. Trey. I begin to panic.
In the room, a man with a white jacket and black denim pants stands. “Is this Patrick?” he asks.

“Yes, I’m Patrick!” I tell him.

“Shush, Patrick!” my owner says. “Yes, this is him.”

“Perfect! Then let’s get started.”Dr. Trey says. He pulls out a needle and I step away. “Don’t be scared,” he says. He raises his hand and sinks the needle deep in my skin.

“ARG!!! What kind of mad genius is this doctor?!” I shouted to my owner. I leapt away from them and started yelling at them.

“Did he get his shot correctly?”my owner said in a worried voice.
.
“Yes, you may leave now,” the doctor replied.

As quickly as it had started, it had finished.

I pawed madly at my owner’s arms – I needed to get away from this crazy scientist! He led me away from the doctor and outside into the car, carrying the cage in one of his hands and my leash in the other. I hope to never go here again!

“We’ll have to get your rabies shot next week,” my owner said. Wait WHAT?
