The Mysterious Mystery

By: Shirley Huang

The three kids, Skiddo, Shelly and Sumdo lived in Union City, California. Shelly always dressed in one color, and today’s color was pink. They were out to buy some candy, as usual.

“I’ve got 3 dollars!” Skiddo said.”

“I’ve got 10!” Shelly yelled as she waved her 10 dollar bill at the boys. Sumdo said,
“That’s good, I forgot my money!”

The three friends laughed as they walked down the street to the candy store on Regents Road. They were surprised to see the street blocked off by police! They were putting up yellow tape that said, “Crime Scene”.

“Excuse me!” Shelly said, “My name’s Shelly. What are you guys doing here?”

One police officer turned around and replied, “The candy store just got broken into yesterday, along with the bank losing 20,000 dollars!”

“20,000 dollars! What the.” The kids yelled together. Then they went home together.

As they went on their way, Shelly asked the boys, “Why don’t we try and unravel this mystery?” She took out her notebook. The boys agreed and took out their own notebooks. “First of all, we know that the bank and the candy store got broken into.” Shelly said while writing in her notebook. Sumdo said, “And we know the bank lost 20,000 dollars.” “I don’t think we know anymore.” Skiddo said.

The next morning, the kids looked at the newspaper, expecting the case to be on the top of the page. There it was. Then there was a headlinethat said: A Girl Filmed the Robber! Please give the video tape to Kelson Karrie, detective at house number 75347. Or call 128 9364 2736. Then showed a picture of a woman smiling. There is a $600 reward!

“Wow, 600 dollars! Come on!” Sumdo yelled to the other two.

“Let’s start!” Shelly yelled.

As they skipped down the road, Shelly thought of something. She asked the boys, “How can the newspaper person tell that the robber was wearing a wig? How did she or he know that the guy or girl who had the tape was a boy? With purple hair? Let’s go to 75347 to see Kelson Karrie, or whoever that is.”

The friends went to 75347 and knocked on the door. A woman opened the door. She looks just like the person in the newspaper, Stella thought. The woman asked,

“Hi guys. Have any questions for Detective Kelson? Or have you guys got the tape?”
“None, thank you.” Shelly replied.

“I was just thinking about how big the kid was. “Ohh, it was in middle school.” She replied.

Then, someone in the house said, “Crime night completed.” Sumdo asked, “Who is it back there?” She replied, “It’s Kerrot and Kepson Karrie, my siblings. They are playing Rhyme. Before Shelly could ask anymore questions, Sumdo said goodbye and closed the door.

“I know him!” Sumdo yelled. “I haven’t told you guys, but I think the guy who filmed the robber is my sister. But there’s something I don’t understand. In the tape, one person ran out. But when I heard “crime night completed” , two people were playing! How?” “Maybe the two planned it together, I mean Kerrot and Kepson Karrie. Someone planned it, and someone committed it! Let’s go find your sister!” Shelly yelled.

They took off. After a few hours, they were in Sumdo’s house. “This is my brother, Summy. Sumdo said, “Summy, do you mind giving us the recording? We will give it to a detective.” “Sure.” Summy replied. “But take care of it!”

Shelly called 128 9364 2736. A woman’s voice answered the call. “Hi, have you got the tape?” The woman said. Then, Shelly gave her the address. “Let’s watch it!” Sumdo yelled. They slipped the CD in and started watching. It showed a woman with short purple hair running from the bank. “Wait a sec.” Sumdo said as he ran into his room. He pulled a wig with long flowing orange hair. He put it on the woman’s head. “It looks just like detective Kelson Karrie! Quick, call the police!” Sumdo said. But will they make it?
They saw detective Kelson, or robber Kelson’s car pull on the driveway. “Uhh oh.” Sumdo said. Using his big mind, he quickly swapped the actual tape with a soccer one. He ran down the stairs, catching up with the two. He gave the video to Kelson. Just then, two police cars pulled into the driveway.

“Who are you?” A policeman asked. “I’m detective Kelson. I’m getting a tape.” She said, “Can you show me your identification card?” A police man asked. “I wouldn’t mind, but I left my wallet in the car.” She said, “Are you sure?” Asked the officer? Detective Kelson started to run, but the police slipped handcuffs over his wrists. The fight was over.

At the police station, the three kids told the policeman their story. “Clever of our thief to pretend to be a detective. She spent the night in the candy shop, since it was the closest to the bank and the manager didn’t have time to do a shop inspection!” “I thought Kerrot and Kepson were the criminals!” Shelly said. “No, they were playing rhymes, and what you guys heard was “rhyme night…temple.” He said. “Now 2000 to each of our heroes!”
