There’s a new Inside Out movie after 9 years- 9! Although there are mixed reviews, Inside Out 2 has been a success so far! This article will feature 2 main topics: Context and Rating
Context
This movie takes place a year after the first Inside Out movie. Riley, the main character of the story, hits puberty and headquarters gets a new makeover, but probably not a makeover in the way one might think. The headquarters has been completely demolished as 4 new emotions join Riley: Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), and Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos). The Original Emotions are Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Liza Lapira replacing Mindy Kaling), and Fear (Tony Hale replacing Bill Hader). (IMDb, 2024) The original emotions don’t know how to feel about Anxiety, and try to stop her. In return, Anxiety suppresses the original emotions. Eventually, the original emotions work to try to fix anxiety’s decisions and realize something larger. I will not explain what it is to avoid spoilers.
Rating
The first Inside Out movie is rated 98% on rotten tomatoes, 8.1/10 on IMDb, 5/5 on Common Sense Media, and has a rating of 4.6/5 on Google. In comparison, the second Inside Out movie is 92% on rotten tomatoes, 8/10 on IMDb, 4/5 on Common Sense Media, and has a rating of 4.6/5 on Google. According to these statistics, it may seem like Inside Out 2 is not as good of a movie as the first. However, Inside Out 2 “scored the biggest box office debut of the year with $155 million domestically and $295 million globally.” Forbes also noted that this was the best Pixar movie of the year! (Forbes, 2024) As someone who has personally already watched Inside Out 2, I would say, “Go watch the movie before it’s too late!”
