The Presidential Debate: Trump or Biden?

By: Anyang  Chen

On Thursday evening, Donald Trump, the 45th president, and Joe Biden, the current US president went head-to-head during the CNN presidential debate, preceding the upcoming election in November.

Many issues were talked about during the debate, such as economics, immigration, and education. Trump brought up that the economy was better under his leadership.
Many economists agree that the economy was generally good under Trump. However, it floundered in the final year of his presidency during the COVID-19 induced depression. Under Biden, however, inflation has been higher than ever. Peak YOY inflation rates were at 9.1% in June 2022. But recently, economy has been on the rise, due to Americans making more money and spending more.

Biden brought up Trump’s previous incarceration, which puts a stain on his reputation as the possible next president.

But Biden is also in dangerous territory. He constantly forgot things during the debate, and even said billionaires as ‘trillionaires’. He also had a raspy voice and stumbled on his words, but that was blamed on a cold. That raises the question, is Biden too old to serve as our president?

He is the current oldest president ever, at 81 years old, only 3 years older than Trump, but the difference is highly noticeable.

Both presidents have extreme advantages and disadvantages. Voters must decide carefully on which side they prefer for the upcoming presidential election in November.
