A new dinosaur was discovered and was named Meraxes Gigas. It is similar to the T-Rex, with short arms and a huge head.

The Meraxes Gigas’ head was the first part of the skeleton found.. The whole process of digging up the dinosaur took 4 years, starting in 2012, in Argentina.

“We won the lottery and found it literally on the first morning,” stated Peter Makovicky, who works as a paleontologist

Makovicky and his team thinks that the Meraxes Gigas lived for around 40 years.

Its skull measured 1.27 meters and its entire body was 11 meters long. The Meraxes could not reach it’s own mouth because it’s arms were only 61 centimeters.

Some researchers believed the dinosaur had short arms for good reason. For example, short arms could help one get up after falling and mating.

“I’m convinced that those proportionally tiny arms had some sort of function,” said Juan Canale, who works at a Paleontological Museum in Argentina.
