The relationship between Russia and China

By: Stephen Chen

The relationship between China and Russia has been a tense topic of discussion around the world for decades. These two countries have been seen as partners due to their similar political backgrounds and two-sided profits. At the same time, they are seen as furtive, uneasy allies.

Behind it, who is the hunter with bigger plans to make the most profits?

In recent months, according to the US envoy, China has spent billions on pro-disinformation to protect and support Russia. A Chinese news station covering the war might only show smiling Russian soldiers and clips of Vladimir Putin. In my opinion, this is not an effective strategy, especially when Russia is seen as a terroristic country by the rest of the world.

There is no doubt that Russia soon will be sanctioned by the United Nations. Likely, this will cause even more inflation in the already struggling Russian Economy. The cost of basic necessities – food, clothing, and soap, might rise to impossible prices. The sanctions will likely lead to Russia requesting more support from China.

If China is looking for current profit which includes the 190 billion import and export volume and many kinds of military and technology supports like drones, missiles, and radar… from Russia, a tragedy will take place soon. If China loses Russia as a trading partner, millions of jobs could be lost. If China continues to trade with Russia, the rest of the UN might begin to import from elsewhere, and millions of jobs will still be lost. China, the most important trading partner for Russia, will be isolated by the whole world.

However, we can’t believe everything the US envoys are saying. According to previous reports from the Chinese government, China has invested heavily in Ukrainian infrastructure projects, including the construction of a new port in the black sea. As you can see, China is also willing to help Ukraine in the Economic part. China should know that there are going to be many eyes observing its behavior and decision in this cruel Ukraine war.

In the other words, it’s never a good idea for China to garner support for Russia the method of pro-disinformation. Maybe this action has different purposes from what the US guesses, thus we have to look at the next step China is going to do.
