Galena, a cat from Utah, had always experienced a rather peaceful life. At least, she had until April 10th, 2024. Galena, 6 year old, a middle aged cat, is also shorthair, who lives with her owner, Carrie Clark.
On April the tenth, Galena disappeared. Ms. Clark stated “We had absolutely no idea what had happened, it was really challenging; I was definitely in a lot of grief.”
It turns out, Galena had sneaked into a 3 by 3 foot box with 5 steel-toed boots. The box was shipped to the CA to be returned to Amazon. She journeyed from her house in Utah to the CA, where she was discovered by a group of Amazon employees. They quickly contacted their boss-Brandy Hunter. Through her microchip, the vet discovered that the stowaway belonged to Ms. Clark. After Ms. Clark was quickly contacted, she and her husband booked a flight to California, where they reunited with Galena.
“It’s really a miracle she was able to survive,” Galena’s owner said. Galena had no food or water. Two flukes of nature had sided with Galena and helped her survive. First of all, a seam on the box she was carried in came loose-resulting in air supply for Galena. Second, the mild weather helped her to not overheat or get too cold.
Ms. Clark believes that Galena sneaked into the box when Mr. Clark was getting the sealing tape. This was no surprise, because Galena had always liked boxes.
Galena has proved to us that being small doesn’t mean not having the will to be curious, and explore. But remember, the next time you get your package, be ready for the Amazon Stowaway!
