Recently, a new movie named Lightyear, by Disney was released. I went to the movie theatre with my friends to watch it and overall, it was a great experience.
“Lightyear,” directed by Angus MacLane is a film about the famous character Buzz Lightyear from “Toy Story”, on a mission to return to his home planet after crashing his ship on the peak of a mountain, leaving him stranded on a foreign planet. Buzz Lightyear then starts to dedicate himself to finding a way to get all the people back to their homes. In my opinion, the plot of the story was well developed, and the use of recurring motif of trying to get back home was also interesting.
I also like the use of diversity in the movie Lightyear. There was a scene where a female actress, Uzo Aduba, kissed her female partner, who happened to be Muslim. This upset many nations resulting in bans on playing the movie in theatres. Since this film’s audience is directed towards younger kids, these things considered, I think it is important for them to understand that there is nothing abnormal about same-sex relationships and that they can express their love to anyone they please.
Another thing I liked about the movie was the animations. Ever since I was little, I have always preferred animated movies over live action movies since it was more appealing. I love the style of art in the movie Lightyear, and the fighting animations really stood out to me.
I would rate “Lightyear” four out of five stars. I give a four because I enjoyed the plot twists of the movie and the non-cliché story. I didn’t give it five stars however, since there have been movies that I was entertained by more.
