On Wednesday, a volcano in Iceland erupted. Three tourists were injured on the volcano. The tourists were walking on the volcano for a trip and suddenly there was the eruption. The eruption was not big, though. The lava flowed down the volcano and smoke went into the air.
The three tourists were injured, but the injuries were not severe unless you consider a “broken ankle” a serious injury. Although they were not seriously hurt, it could be a risk when the lava was coming down. The volcano’s name was Fagradalsfjall.
The volcano was in southwest Iceland. A spokeswoman, Hjordis Gudmundsdottir, claimed in an interview on Thursday, “We tell people that, even though we know it’s spectacular and there’s nothing like it, we have to be careful, and we have to be prepared before we go.”
Gudmundsdottir said that walking there would take five hours. That’s far! “We are trying to tell people it’s not just a walk in the park,” Gudmundsdottir said, “People have to be careful and in good clothes and good shoes. We are trying to tell that to both Icelanders and our foreign friends.”
The three tourists were rescued off the volcano. The tourist with the broken ankle was lifted by helicopter while the other two tourists got off the volcano by vehicles. “We don’t know how many people have been there, but we know it is many, and we know the next days, it will be more,” Gudmundsdottir said, “We know we can’t say, ‘Stay away.’ We are not locking the place.”
