Tom Cruise: Talented Actor but Robotic Human

By: AB G

Tom Cruise has been in many movies, his latest one being Top Gun: Maverick, which was released this year. Although Cruise has never won an Oscar, he has twenty-nine awards including three Golden Globes. He is now sixty years old and started acting when he was just eighteen years old. He is one of the highest paid actors and his films have grossed over four billion in just North America and over ten billion worldwide. Cruise is now participating in a lot of science fiction and action films, often doing very dangerous stunts.

On screen, Cruise is a great actor, but offscreen is very secretive about his life and responds like a computer-generated answer when asked questions. An interviewer from Moviebill magazine asked Cruise about his most memorable film and he responded with “I love movies”, which sounded like he was a robot. Another example of this was when someone asked his what team he was rooting for in a baseball game and he replied, “I love baseball”.

Cruise will not allow his films on Netflix, Prime Video, or other streaming services. He only wants his films in movie theaters, on the big screen. “I make movies for the big screen,” he explained. He wants to preserve the old ways of watching a movie, having people physically go to the movie theater. He also does not like to use green screens, rather the real thing. For example, in Top Gun Maverick, he got a valid pilot license in order to fly a plane on set. Green screens are cheaper, but Cruise thinks the film will be better if the stunts are done in real life.

He does not want much C.G.I at all. C.G.I. stands for computer generated imagery and is used to put things into movies that are actually not there. He would rather force himself into flight training, that is how committed he is.
