Tom Daley, who just won his 5th Olympic medal at the 2024 Paris games, says that he will be retiring from diving. He announced this right after the Olympics ended on Sunday, during an interview with British Vogue.

Tom Daley qualified for the Olympics at the young age of 14 in 2008; since then, he has competed in every Olympics. His first gold medal was at the Toyoko games in 2021. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he was able to get a silver medal with his diving partner, Noah Williams, at the 10-meter synchro event. He is also Team GB’s most-decorated diver.

During his interview, he says that his retirement, “Feels very, very surreal,”. He also said that he felt incredibly nervous about his final Olympic Games and that, “There was a lot of pressure and expectations.

I was eager for it to be done, but when I walked out, and saw my husband, and kids, and my friends, and family in the audience, I was like, you know what? This is exactly why I did this”. He says that his last dive felt very emotional because he knew that it was going to be his last competitive dive in his life.

Tom Daley’s career spans over 15 years. Within those 15 years he’s won many titles both in European and World competitions. He has a total of 3 bronze medals from the 2012 London games, Rio 2016 Games, and the Tokyo 2020 Games. He has one silver medal from the Paris 2024 games, along with the gold medal he won in Tokyo.
