Tori Bowie Died From Eclampsia

By: Tiffany Han

On May 2, police officers found the three-time gold medalist in the Olympics, Tori Bowie dead on the floor in her house in Florida. She was only 32 when she died of Eclampsia.

Eclampsia is a condition in which one or more convulsions occur in a pregnant woman suffering from high blood pressure. It is often followed by coma and poses a threat to the health of mother and baby. She was only eight months pregnant and was undergoing labor. Unfortunately, her daughter also did not survive. Her fans were disappointed by the lack of attention given to Tori Bowie’s death.

The autopsy report listed the weight and height for Bowie as 96 pounds and 5’9. It’s also said her body and organs are in normal condition.

Black Americans face an elevated risk of preeclampsia and eclampsia, contributing to a higher death rate before and after childbirth. “The maternal death rate among Black Americans is much higher than other racial groups,” NPR reported in March. There are many reasons for this, including sexism, racism, and income inequality.
