On Sunday, July 21,Tadej Pogacar won the Tour de France for the third time defeating Jonas Vingegaard by 6:17 minutes.

Tour de France is an annual, multistage, men’s cycling competition based in France. The race is usually held in July.

Tadej Pogacar is a cyclist who won the Tour de France 2020 and 2021 but then became 2nd place in 2022 and 2023. Based on that, one may assume it would be hard for him to become first again in the next few years.

But, on Sunday, defeated Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark impressively and claimed victory in the Tour de France 2024.

According to the New York Times, “Pogacar’s championship was confirmed in the final time trial from Monaco to Nice on Sunday. Setting off last among the Tour’s 141 surviving riders, crouched over his time trial bike — with its solid rear wheel for aerodynamics — Pogacar in the race leader’s yellow jersey rode with the confidence of a sure winner. He capped his stellar three-week run with another stage win, his sixth, finishing 1:03 ahead of Vingegaard to take the Tour by 6:17 overall”.

In the mountains of France, Pogacar was in the lead by 3 minutes 11 seconds. On Friday, he added almost 2 minutes to the overall lead.

“After two hard years in the Tour de France, always some mistakes. This year — everything to perfection. I am super happy to win here,” Pogacar said

For the past five years, the winner of the Tour de France was either Tadej Pogacar or Jonas Vingegaard at ages 25-27, and they have been securing the 1st and 2nd places. There will continue to be competition between these two in the future.
