Train Crashes Into Montana’s Yellowstone River

By: Renee Jin

Authorities in Montana reported that a train carrying potentially dangerous cargo was wrecked early on Saturday and entered the Yellowstone River.

The crash destroyed the railroad tracks on the Yellowstone Twin River Bridges in Stillwater County, Montana and dumped several tankers into the Yellowstone River. According to ABC News, the Director of Emergency Management for Yellowstone County, KC Williams, said that four of the railcars that went down were carrying molten sulfur and three were carrying hot asphalt. Some were carrying different substances, but those didn’t enter the river.

The operator stated that MRL personnel and emergency responders are currently onsite to conduct an investigation into the derailment’s cause. Neighborhood occupants told ABC News that the stream was pursuing high weighty precipitation over the course of the past month, including a tempest the earlier night.

According to Williams, the water supply in Yellowstone County is unaffected at this time. MRL stated, “The safety of our employees and the public remains our highest priority. We are determined to address any potential effects on the area resulting from this incident and work to comprehend the circumstances surrounding it.”
