UK heatwave: What are schools doing to keep children cool?

By: Eric Zheng

Have you ever experienced a heat wave? Heatwaves are weather events of temperatures around or over 37 degrees Celsius and 98 Fahrenheit.

Europe is now closing schools partially or fully because of the heatwave, allowing students to leave early. School administrators have said that they can’t do anything to help the students stay cool, many buildings lacking air conditioning or other cooling appliances.

Teachers have canceled field days and other outdoor activities. Even with many fans, the classroom would still be hot and unbearable. Students also struggle to keep themselves cool from the weather. Schools have made students go to churches to study, others have let students go home early. Cafeteria staff have been given neck fans to keep them cool. Schools have also let students have cold desserts and water.

According to the article, it said, “”At school we’ve had movie time in the shade during breaks, had ice lollies, the teachers have misted us with water and we’ve kept hydrated,” oldoakmaple told Newsround. Schools also tend to dismiss them as early as possible if they are partially closing. What do you think about heat waves? Or it’s bad?
