Mourners gathered around the grave of a young man, William, who had lived a life full of love, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.

But William wasn’t really gone. William was standing in the shadows of the oak trees, watching the funeral scene unfold. William found himself in a peculiar state, detached from physical form, but still there to witness their sorrowful goodbyes.

William watched as the tears of his family and friends glistened under the dim sunlight. Memories of cherished moments intertwined with the misery of the loss, painting a picture of his life well-lived.

William spotted Lily, his younger sister, amongst the crowd of people in the ceremony. Lily seemed more miserable and mournful than the others. Her voice trembled as she spoke of the memories they shared. William couldn’t help but be reminded of the challenges they overcame together, the laughter they shared, and the numerous times they turned to each other for support and guidance.

“I miss you, a lot,” Lily cried. “I will forever carry a part of you in my heart.”

A bittersweet smile crept on William’s face when he heard it. He hadn’t really realized the impact he had on his loved ones until he watched the ceremony.

The ceremony eventually ended, and most people had dispersed. Alone in the cemetery, William enjoyed the peace he left while sitting in silence. Knowing that his loved ones would find comfort in each other, he couldn’t help but proudly smile.

But just as William was about to leave, a figure walked toward his grave.

It was Lily.

“I wish I could’ve said a proper goodbye before you left,” Lily choked on her words.

William’s heart ached hearing these words. He wanted to embrace Lily, letting her know that he was in a better place now. He wanted to talk to Lily one last time. He wanted to say a final goodbye to her as well.

But he was just a spectator. After a few more minutes, Lily turned to walk away, gently touching the gravestone. William knew that his presence was felt by Lily, if only in spirit.

Giving the gravestone a final, lingering look, William turned and floated away. Although he would not be physically there with his loved ones anymore, the memories would remain etched on their hearts for eternity.
