The US Congress on June 9th talked and shared their points, videos, documents, and interviews on the January 6th attack. The hearing was to not only share the information but to also make sure that Americans learn from what happened, hoping that it will stop it from happening again. The hearing was held on live TV all over news stations around the country, excluding Fox News.
One important fact that Congress looked at was that Co-president, Donald Trump knew he had not won the 2020 election against Biden. But other than moving on he kept on trying for months at a time to switch the results and tell people the lie that he had won. Another important fact was that the attack on January 6th didn’t start only out because of the protest. “The committee showed that at least two groups which supported Mr. Trump planned the attack in advance.” – NFK editors for News for Kids
Donald Trump not only tried to spread lies but he also encouraged Republican lawmakers to protest that the elections were to be overturned. Donald Trump also tried to make Vice president Mike Pence get rid of the results of the election. But Mike Pence made sure that people knew we were to be fair to what was the people’s vote.
The assembly is led by Democrat Bennie Thompson, of Mississippi. The second most important spot is held by Republican Representative Liz Cheney, of Wyoming. Many people are attacking Ms. Cheney because she was taking part in the inspection, and she responded by warning the Trump supporters, ”There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain”- Republican Representative Liz Cheney, of Wyoming.
In the end, Ms. Cheney explained what future assemblies would be about, Mr. Trump tries to change the election results, how the attack was planned ahead of time, and tries to get Vice President, Mike Pence, to switch the results. The first hearing was viewed by 12 million people, the same amount of people that would be watching an important sports event.
