Introduction
The US Olympic Swimming Trials recently ended on June 23, 2024. USA Swimming welcomed 48 members to their team. The Olympics are coming soon! “Athletes take their first plunge into the pool in Paris on Saturday, July 27 with competition concluding on Saturday, August 4” (nbcOlympics, 2024)
Katie Ledecky
Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky, better known as Katie Ledecky, is an American competitive swimmer. She has won seven Olympic gold medals, and 21 world championship medals, which is the world record for a female swimmer. “Having sprung to fame by winning 800m freestyle gold at London 2012 as a 15-year-old, the American has gone on to become Olympic champion at every distance from 200m to 1500m.” (Olympics, 2024) Katie Ledecky will compete in the 400-meter Freestyle, the 800-meter Freestyle, and the 1500-meter Freestyle.
Regan Smith
Regan Smith, also known as “Riptide Rocket” by fans, is the world junior record holder in the women’s long course 100-meter backstroke as well as 200-meter backstroke. Regan competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke, a silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke, and a silver medal in the 4 x 100-meter relay. In the 2024 Summer Olympics, Regan Smith will compete in the 100-meter backstroke, the 200-meter backstroke, and the 200-meter butterfly.
Kate Douglass
Katherine Cadwallader Douglass, better known as Kate Douglass, won her first major international swimming medal in the 2020 Olympics. She won three medals at the 2022 World Championships, six medals at the 2023 World Championships, and five medals at the 2024 World Championships. Kate Douglass will compete in the 200-meter Breastroke, 100-meter Freestyle, and 200 IM.
