US president Biden struggles during debate with Trump

By: Michael Xia

U.S president Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump took part in a debate on Thursday evening ahead of the US election in November.

Throughout the discussion, President Biden rambled, left long pauses, stumbled over his words throughout and wasn’t able to respond quickly to his opponents attacks. Mr Trump, president before Biden, repeatedly attacked his opponent on the economy. Biden responded by bringing up Trump’s criminal record and alleged affair.

The former president has been accused of hiding payments made to a woman he’s alleged to have had a relationship with while he was married, so that she would keep quiet about it as he ran for president in 2016.

The two candidates both have had impressive careers. President Biden was a leader in the Senate and 47th Vice President of the United States. As a Senator from Delaware for 36 years, then-Senator Biden played a leading role addressing some of our nation’s most important domestic and international challenges, including writing the Violence Against Women Act.

Donald John Trump is an American politician, media personality, and businessman who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Trump received a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. His father named him president of his real estate business in 1971.

There is little doubt in the minds of the public, or analysts over which of these two men won the debate. To the shock of many, it was Trump. The BBC’s North America editor Sarah Smith said: “Joe Biden had one job – to persuade Americans he wasn’t too old. Now many democrats question if Joe Biden should carry on as the presidential candidate.
