Using AI Storytelling or Not?

By: Emma Xing

Have you ever heard of AI (Artificial Intelligence)? AI can make things look different, for example, creating a fake person that may actually look real!

Many weird things could pop on somebody’s phone showing a picture of someone that may look very convincing and real, but in reality is just fake! This is called AI storytelling.

Alisha Arora, a 17-year-old teenager has witnessed this first hand.

She works with AI labs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and also works as a UNICEF ambassador who works on AI and mental health.

She explains the first time she witnessed an AI storytelling, it was about a basketball player. She says she actually believed the story and some stories are very convincing. So some stories are hard to tell if they’re real or not.

But there are many different ways to do AI storytelling. You could create your own avatars that look like a human to fool other people. It’s as simple as that to make someone that could look like just you. Or you could change your own voice and edit your looks to look like someone totally different.

And these storytellings could go from absolute silliness of a kid becoming a zombie to fake historical people saying random things. Many believe it has gone out of hand!

Surprisingly, these stories are pretty much very easy to make. CBC Kids News tested this out and created a fake kid avatar with a voice within a matter of minutes…for free! No wonder many people have been doing this.

Now, people are getting the sense of these creepy videos. Skipping storytelling videos is important. After all, they are fake anyways and sometimes they can give you nightmares!
