Utah Cat Takes Unintended Cross-Country Trip in Amazon Box

On April 10, Galena, a six-year-old house cat, sneaked inside a cardboard Amazon return shipping box and hitched a ride from her Utah home to California, traveling more than 500 miles.

The cat’s owners, Carrie and Matt Clark, soon discovered she was missing and searched their entire house, neighborhood, nearby walking trail, and surrounding areas without discovering any trace of her. The couple was devastated by the loss of their beloved pet. “Galena is a huge emotional support to me and has helped me get through many health challenges over the past six years,” Clark told KSL-TV. “The anxiety and stress of not knowing what happened to her was excruciating,” she added. The Clarks prayed for her safety and return, even undertaking a one-day fast, which they believe is a humble approach to seeking divine intervention.

However, a week after her disappearance, the Clarks received a notification that Galena’s microchip was scanned in Jurupa Valley, a city near Los Angeles, California. Promptly thereafter, Carrie got a call from a Californian vet explaining that Galena was discovered in an Amazon warehouse by a couple of employees, one of whom was Brandy Hunter, a cat-lover who took the feline to the vet. Besides being mildly dehydrated, Galena was miraculously unharmed despite spending six days in a box with no food or water.

The Clarks immediately booked a flight to Los Angeles and drove to the vet’s office straight from the airport to see their beloved pet. Hunter recorded their heartwarming reunion as Carrie gently stroked her cat and rocked it back and forth.
