Water

By: Sunny Liu

A man with blonde hair and green eyes was given four choices on what to take away from the planet. There was plant life, fire, air, or water. The foolish man chose water. Each year, 1 million gallons of water would be removed from Earth.

After a few years, many wells and ponds evaporated, leaving only holes in the ground of what they used to be. As the years progressed, many animals perished, and fish went close to extinction.

A century passed, and many areas around the world had exposed coral reefs. Many cities far from lakes and oceans perished, and their ruins crumbled to dust. The coastal cities weren’t thriving either. Many bays and docks could no longer be used, and the boats that once were there lay abandoned in the sand.

Humanity eventually resorted to purifying and drinking any liquids they could find. The world dissolved into chaos. People fought wars over glaciers, and snow tanks exploded many areas of the Arctic. Soldiers’ blood turned the snow red.

One million years passed. Many animals resorted to living like water bears, spending most of their time hibernating, waiting for a time in which water would return.

As years after years passed, most of the planet had turned to deserts. Humans had long since perished, and any sign that there had been a civilization had been erased. Earth eventually became uninhabitable. And as the last living creature was dying, he realized that water was the most important thing.
