Over the years, AI has been taking many human jobs, especially the tech and media positions. This led to people asking these questions: Will robots replace humans? Will they take over the world? Artificial intelligence has taken over many different fields, most recently, math.
In 2019, computer scientist Christian Szegedy made the prediction that artificial intelligence could excel in mathematics better than the best mathematicians in the world.
A math device, also known as a proof assistant, was programmed in 2019 to check the work of mathematicians and whether the reasoning behind their work is accurate. Recently, this proof assistant has been praised by many computer scientists for its benefits of verifying many complicated theorems that may go beyond humans mental abilities.
However, there are downfalls to this software: it often is unable to understand the definitions and the reasoning behind certain steps. This would make the research process a lot more time-consuming and difficult.
“We like to attach stuff to ourselves to make it a little easier to get things right,” a mathematician from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jordan Ellenburg said.
Humans have been experimenting with artificial intelligence for years to the point where they have crossed a line when it comes to what jobs can be done by humans and what can be done by robots. For example, many robots have taken over the delivery of many fast food industries, and errors that have occurred in the software could possibly prevent the job from being done. Whereas a normal delivery person can simply deliver the order without the worry of any software problems. Their taking over math proves their endless abilities that could could impact our world in a future. However, it is hard to predict what the future with these technological advancements would look like.
