World’s Fastest Star

By: Joelyn Luo

Scientists have discovered a star that moves 8,000 kilometers per second, which is also 5,000 miles per second. It will travel 23.5 million kilometers across space in just 4 years.

These scientists involved are from University of Cologne and Masaryk University. It took them almost 20 years of studying to find it. “For a star to be in a stable orbit so close and fast in the vicinity of a supermassive black hole was completely unexpected and marks the limit that can be observed with traditional telescopes,” said Dr Florian Peissker.

Florian Peissker is one of the scientists that have recently found the fastest star known in the universe. He has a degree from the University of Cologne. Now let me tell you about what a black hole is. A black hole is a dying star that has fallen because it was too heavy. This star lives very close to a black hole in the Milky Way. Like what Dr Florian Peissker said, a traditional telescope can see the star. These telescopes are in Hawaii. Now we know who discovered the fastest star in the universe and what a black hole is. Now scientists have discover the fastest star maybe when you grow up you can discover a faster star in the universe.
