Class Syllabus – Grades 6-8
Objective: Students will be able to identify figurative language and its role in a given text.
Essential Questions:
- What is figurative language?
- Why is figurative language important to use as a writer?
Enduring Understandings:
- Figurative language refers to words that are stretched. Its meaning goes beyond its literal definition(s).
- Figurative language is important because, by stretching the meaning of words, a writer can sound more artistic, make a joke, or communicate more clearly and engagingly with the reader.
