We can’t believe it is almost the end of January! Let’s end this month off on a great note by reviewing our comma usage, making sure that our sentences are combined in clear and concise ways.
Writing Lab #7: Comma Usage

Objective: Students will be able to utilize commas correctly and purposefully in their writing to enhance clarity.
Essential Questions:
- What are the functions of a comma?
- What are the different uses of a comma?
- How can I utilize commas within a sentence in an accurate and purposeful way?
- Why is it important to use commas in your sentences?
Enduring Understandings:
- Commas are a grammatical tool that indicates a pause in a sentence, set off words, or separate items in a list.
- Using commas purposefully can allow you to clarify or enhance the meaning in your writing.
