Year of the Bunny- Lunar New year 2023

By: JJ G

This year is the year of the rabbit. Rabbit people are reputed to be calm, intelligent, popular, and very lucky! On January 22, this year over 1.6 billion people traveled to see friends and family or did traditional customs to celebrate the year of the rabbit. Many people also had a reunion dinner where they ate different foods that symbolize different things.

On February 5, the festivities will end with the lantern festival. Observers will hang red lanterns on streets, homes, and temples, and also pray for a good next year. But the biggest part of the lantern festival is the dragon dance when people dressed in dragon costumes dance. People like the dragon dance so much because the dragon symbolizes the authority of the emperor and the dragons are believed to scare away evil spirits and bring good luck.
