We are so excited to kick the new year off with a writing lab that will help your children to be more confident writers and communicators. Please note: these are for MEMBERS ONLY 🙂 Also, we will be taking off the week of 12/26/22, so there will be NO labs that week.

Writing Lab #5: Subject Verb Agreement

Class Syllabus – Grades 3-5

January 2, 2023

Objective: Students will be able to write sentences in which the subjects and verbs agree with one another.

Essential Questions:

  1. What is the difference between singular and plural nouns and verbs?
  2. How can I combine my subjects and verbs so that they agree.

Enduring Understandings:

  1. Singular nouns contain only one subject and typically do not contain ‘s’ or ‘es’ at the end of it, while plural nouns are the opposite.
  2. Singular verbs contain an ‘s’ in them whereas plural verbs typically do not.
  3. A singular noun matches with a singular verb and vice versa

Standards:

Grade 3: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Grade 4: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.4.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Grade 5: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.5.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
